I just watched Slumdog millionaire on Sunday and it got me thinking about people's childhoods and how they effect who they become. What happened in Holden's childhood that has led him to behave in such a way towards societal preferences and expectations for him. Is it just the typical "teen angst" factor coming in to play, or is it more? How do people turn out the way they do? In the movie (Slumdog millionaire), it was almost proving against childhood shaping, I mean the poor guy got to grow up in an absolutely horrifying way! His mother killed when he was only about five years old, having to live on his own, trying to stay alive and living with death, poverty, lies and the horrible truths or reality. You would think a person who grew up like that would be hardened by life beating down on them. You would think that person would be a lying, cheating, thieving creature, trying to obtain anything they could to enhance their rate of survival. You would think.
So what happened in Holden's youth? Did his parents push for the "pleasantville" atomic family, and it ended up backfiring in their faces? Was that extra little push they gave him when he hit the baseball through Mr. McNelly's window just enough to make his realize what he was living with. Did he see someone, someone whom he would have normally admired, and suddenly realized that they where a fake? Was it something like with Biff and Willy's affair with the woman?!! Holden and Biff might have been all set up for the "successful" life, with their parents happily in tow behind, when something happened. It must have been something big, to cause such a dramatic shift in beliefs. It could have been Allie's death....then again. Holden could have always been destined for something of this sort, and has always been like this! People seem too hard to just pin down to a category, or to predict with probability, or common circumstance. Afterall, a kid with a nice normal family, with goals and ambitions will turn out completely "normal" right?
You would think.
Fisrt off i just want to ask you how you got music to play on your blog, because doug asked me about that a few days ago. Also i love your choice of music! 17 years by Ratatat, i was just talking about this song at the bake sale at church a while ago. It was pretty funny when i realized i still had my i-tumes paused. :)Okay, boy. You hit on alot of highly controversal topics that completely destroyed the basis for one of my previous comments. I have had this conversation with my friends countless times, and i think i have come to a fairly good conclusion. I believe that your personality is completly reliant on your past experiences but everyone takes their experiences and analizes them differently. For instance in slumdog millionare (which i have never seen) the character you were talking about could have grown up as a horible person tht you described, but he interpreted his horrible experiences differently than most people would have. He probably realized the terible effects your actions can have on others and decided he didn't want to be someone causing the same pain he felt in the past. Though i really have no idea because i never saw the movie. Some time i would love to talk about this topic with you though. I just hate the slow pace of blog discusions.

there are these things in google called "gagets"
in my case, i created an account on playlist.com, made a playlist, and copied the java text it gives you to post on a website (such as a blog). then in my blog, i clicked customise, and added a new html/javascript thingy, then pasted that stuff from the other website in there. unfortunetely, it was HUGE, and black and had adds all over it. so i skillfully changed the heigh and width as well as took out the adds by deleted and retyping some of the script (i was dang proud of that!) now, it plays music! You can also make it so people have a choice of turning it on or off (in my case, you must suffer through it!) however i'm really going to get off now, seeing as a just saw the hugest lightning in the univers!!
